Leeds Church Institute is a non-denominational and independent Christian charity based in the city centre. It has been part of city life for over 150 years, and continually seeks new ways to engage with the current challenges and opportunities.
We work through education and the arts, research, city engagement and a learning centre; and aim to be an active agent for change in city life.
As a learning community during the last year we have engaged with some challenging topics including responding theologically to sexual abuse and the church, and also the Holocaust through hosting the Eye As Witness exhibition. In our learning, we have confidence that God is with us in all things and calls us to act on our learning for the benefit of others as well as ourselves.
LCI was happy to host the launch event for the Leeds Lent Prayer Diary 2020. Throughout the whole year, we will be part of the infrastructure of support for ecumenical mission in Leeds by promoting relationships, offering meeting space and facilitating learning, research and discussion.
New ventures include a bursary scheme looking at faith and art in Leeds, publication of a Leeds poetry anthology on ‘Prophets and Protestors’ and deepening our approach to education in a world where climate catastrophe is real.
• Give thanks for our members who inspire others through their commitment to learning and working for the Common Good.
• Please pray for all those who learn and especially those tackling important and challenging topics.
