‘God sets the lonely in families.’Psalm 68:6
Leeds’ Home for Good prayer support group of foster carers and adopters meets six weekly to provide peer support for Christians who foster or adopt. There are 15 families that are part of this group and last year 25 carers, parents and children met for a summer gathering at Cliffe Castle where the children enjoyed meeting others with a similar background and played football and climbed trees!
Last year in Leeds 420 children came into the care system and almost 1,300 children were looked after by the Local Authority either with a foster family or in a residential home. Some of these children were waiting to be adopted. There is a shortage of foster carers and adopters in our city. Many children needing adoption may need to be placed outside of the area they were born in.
Please pray that many more people step forward to care for the vulnerable children in need of love in our city.
Pray that all foster or adoptive parents in Leeds will find the support they need through support groups, church, schools and government funding for therapy.
We are always keen to encourage and support more Christians to become foster carers or adoptive parents. Home for Good’s national organisation will be holding an information evening on 20th May 2019, 8pm at St George’s Centre Leeds, to which anyone interested is welcome to come along.
