St. Monica, the mother of St.Augustine, said: ‘I cried to the Lord and he answered me’. We are a charity which attempts to answer our call from the Lord to help those in need.
We provide accommodation for women who are seeking refuge in the UK and who have no recourse to public funds. Supported by the Diocese of Leeds, Catholic Care and several funders we have a previously-unused presbytery in South Leeds which now houses six women. During the year ending March 2018 we provided 2085 ‘resident days’ with an occupancy rate of 95%.
One of our residents sent the trustees a Christmas card which said: “bountiful thanks for the good work that God has granted you the honour, heart & enablement to do to his own glory.”
There is a high demand for places at St. Monica’s and so we are soon to open a second house in Harehills with space for another four women.
Please pray for all destitute people and for all trustees, volunteers and supporters of St Monica’s who are trying to answer the ‘call of the Lord’.
