We gather people together for good in Crossgates and East Leeds. 2018 was a year of both great opportunities and great disappointments. Carols in the Park is now well established and at this year’s Xpedition XGates we added lunch for the 40+children who attended five mornings of summer holiday activities across four church congregations.
Give thanks that our ecumenical projects are flourishing and that Churches Together also hosted a second WYDAN shelter for asylum seekers in 2018.
We know that mental health difficulties and isolation are significant issues. Our social group morethan, which meets in cafes, is a small way to address that, but plans for a community hub were ended when the free unit in the shopping centre was no longer available. Pray for new opportunities for a hub and for more partnership working across the church congregations.
Give thanks that a number of volunteers and project visitors are engaging more spiritually through the weekly ‘Crossgates Community’ meal. Give thanks for volunteer listeners at the linked project ‘Time To Talk’.
Each week 16 volunteers listen to 80 teens at John Smeaton Academy who struggle to read. We’d love to develop a mentoring scheme in due course.
Pray for provision. We are seeking an increase in personal donors as currently we can only pay our development manager 1.5 hours per week.
