LEEDS PRAYER HOUSE

The aim of Leeds City Prayer Community is to create a city centre space for worship and intercession, to be used firstly by the many, diverse Christians of Leeds and secondly as a point of access to the gospel for those who don’t yet regard themselves as believers. Their heart is to speak blessings over all aspects of the life of the city – its churches, businesses, civic institutions, places of learning, health services and agencies working with the vulnerable, meeting to do so in the heart of the city (Ps 122:1-2), with potential for engaging with people working / visiting / shopping in the city centre. LeHoP aims to complement the existing ministries of City Centre churches and will continue to seek to develop good relationships with the leaders from these churches – as well as other churches across the city.

They are currently bringing together a team of pray-ers who share a timetabled prayer rhythm, using original liturgy and songs. The team would like Leeds City Prayer Community to be a creative hub where artists, including writers, musicians, dancers and actors are encouraged to participate. Leeds City Prayer Community also recognises that Leeds city centre is a magnet for the poor, lonely, sick, insecurely housed and roofless. The team already includes individuals with significant experience in working with people from these groups and believes that a city centre project like this should at least consider developing a mercy-mission arm to its work.
